Buffer Intensity Calculator - this is a freeware tool that calculates an inverse distance weighted buffer value for crime events around locations. It only requires x,y coordinate inputs from a list of locations and from crime events around those locations. The inverse distance weighting comes in a range of linear and non-linear algorithms. Basically, it is a buffer intensity calculator. First made available at the MAPS conference in Pittsburgh, 2007.

Weighted diplacement quotient calculation spreadsheet - enter in details of a target, buffer and control area, and the spreadsheet calculates the weighted displacement quotient as well as some other useful statistics. Designed to evaluate spatially contrained police operational success. First made available at the MAPS conference in Pittsburgh, 2007.

Hotspot Detective - The best-selling MapInfo toolbar for crime analysis!

Tools that have not been looked at in some time - user beware...

MapInfo tools - this section has a couple of downloadable MapBasic applications that you may find useful. You need MI version 4.5 or better. Here you will also find a ShapeFile to PovRay converter that I wrote in MapBasic.

SPAM - The Spatial Pattern Analysis Machine is the driving engine for some of the Hotspot Detective (though not all of it by a long way) and is much less user friendly. It runs outside MapInfo and can be used by ArcView users with some cross-over knowledge of file conversion techniques.
